Many landscape photographers are motivated by a love of nature and the environment, in addition to their artistic aims. In a recent interview with BBC journalist Simon Willis, Galen Rowell said: “The reason that I keep writing is that all my most powerful messages about the fates of wild places that I care about need to have words as well as images.”

When taking landscape photographs, it is usual for a cable release and a tripod to be used as this minimises any camera shake which leads to the creation of very sharp pictures. Remotes are not necessary in landscape photography, but tripods certainly are in such a field of photographic work. In addition to tripods, photographers often use modern DSLR cameras as they boast a mirror lockup for the active prevention of camera shake during the photo-taking process. In the modern day, post production has come to have a pivotal role in the photographic process whereas before it was relatively insignificant. Digital photography has heralded the advent of post production for landscape photographers.
